Wording for Donation Only Car Wash?

17 Jul

Our youth group is holding a FREE car wash fundraiser. Basically, we heard that you raise more money when you just let people donate whatever they want. I’m making flyers and at the top it says “FREE CAR WASH” because that’s what it is. Nobody is required to make a donation. However, I do want to put emphasis that donations are accepted without sounding pushy. Does “Donations Appreciated” sound good? Any other ideas/suggestions?

I don’t like the idea of saying FREE and then pushing for donations. I feel that is under-handed.

I would prefer: “CAR WASH Fundraiser for XXXXXXXXXXX”

No set charge for the wash, but please donate
what you can to our cause.

To me this is completely honest from the get-go. You tell them you are raising funds, so obviously expect a donation, while not setting a price. If you set a price, then you are also liable by certain laws, and could end up with problems if you aren’t a licensed charitable organization.
